WP1 - Key Earth Science Applications for Gridification by DEGREE — last modified 2007-08-03 13:35
Review the key components of ES applications in order to generalize the requirements • Collect the key requirements from the ES community • Specification of the different families of applications within ES • Selection of applications from each of the families to go into a production and operational status on the Grid • Communicate the requirements to the Grid community, in cooperation with WP4 and WP5 • Monitor progress on requirements fulfillment, in cooperation with WP2, 3 and 4

Detailed analysis and technical specification of the ES scenarios and requirements defined in work package 1 with regard to data management • The work package will perform a review of mostly used tools (database products), systems and standards for ES metadata in the ES community • The work package will evaluate and review advanced grid technology components to securely distribute, share and access ES data in an operation oriented environment

Detailed analysis of tools for application management and control with respect to their usability in ES applications • Detailed analysis and technical specification of the ES scenarios and requirements coming from WP1 and identification of missing technologies and tools with focus on European grid infrastructures • Preparation of test cases and testing methodology for evaluation of grid middleware and tools
WP4 - Grid Application Portals and Collaborative Interfaces by DEGREE — last modified 2007-08-03 13:55
Survey of state of art and comparative analysis of Grid Portals and Services building frameworks, components, tools and application interface layer towards low-level Grid middleware services • Share technology, approach and expertise on Grid based Portals among the Partners • Advancement of Grid based Portals and Service Oriented Architectures within the Earth Science applications community, with emphasis on promoting the use of the Grid technologies in Industry • Promote the adoption of common approaches in Earth Science; recommend standards, tools & procedures to facilitate porting and deployment of Grid-based application Portals and Service Oriented Architectures • Propose, develop and refine specifications and standards for Grid Portals and Services Oriented Architectures
WP5 - Dissemination, Communication and Collaboration by DEGREE — last modified 2007-08-03 13:55
Participate in the communication management of DEGREE • Disseminate the benefits of Grid to ES communities • Disseminate the ES requirements and needed services to Grid communities and EGEE-II • Disseminate towards public in general • Collaborate with other Grid projects - horizontal collaboration
WP6 - New Challenges and Roadmap by DEGREE — last modified 2007-08-03 13:55
Develop the concept and specify the technology base for an Earth Sciences Grid Services Platform, taking inputs from the DEGREE technical WPs results and lessons learned • Develop the roadmap for building and promoting a Grid services platform for new ES applications and value added services • Identify new technical challenges and make recommendations for future actions, with particular emphasis on Industry development • Increasing the involvement and participation of Industry and exploiting the Grid potential for generating new business opportunities • Generate new contacts through existing Earth Science research and industry bodies to promote and advance complementary Grid technologies for providing applications services

Overall Project management and reporting to the EU • To ensure close and correct collaboration among partners • Enforcing the agreed-upon deadlines • Continuous management of the Project activities, resources and monitoring • Resolution of conflicts and risks, corrective actions
