External Collaboration

by DEGREE last modified 2007-08-03 13:35

DEGREE aims to create a bridge between Earth Science and Grid communities in order that the next Grid generation will integrate application requirements in the middleware and services. In order to achieve this goal, the consortium members will:

  • Identify key Earth Science requirements corresponding to a large panel of applications
  • Disseminate Earth Science application requirements to Grid projects
  • Evaluate Grid middleware, tools and standards regarding Earth Science requirements
  • Provide feedbacks to Grid developers

During all these different steps, there will be collaboration with both Earth Science and Grid communities.

Aiming at better integration of the Earth Science (ES) community in EGEE-II and EGEE's evolution towards a European data and Grid infrastructure for research, the collaboration will be focused on the following objectives:

-     update on the link of the Earth Science  community and its ICT infrastructures and ES applications to EGEE-II,

-     the plans of SSA project DEGREE for assessing the medium to long term requirements of the Earth Science community related to Grid infrastructures, i.e. connect the roadmaps of ES and EGEE-II,

-     potential collaboration between EGEE-II and DEGREE towards future integration of the Earth Science community with EGEE-II and its successors.

The collaboration will be implemented by several DEGREE work packages. WP1 will define the ES requirements and will communicate them to the appropriate EGEE-II interfaces, supported by WP5 ‘Dissemination and Collaboration’ and WP7 Project management. The long term contribution to e-IRG will be done by WP6 ‘New Challenges and Roadmap’, again supported by WP5 ‘Dissemination and Collaboration’ and WP7 Project management.
